Week of October 24, 2016

During our literacy block this week we will continue to talk about characters, setting, beginning, middle and end of a story.  We will continue to think about strategies we can use to figure out words we do not know when we are reading.

We are continuing to work on writing a good sentence - begin with an upper case letter, end with a punctuation mark, spelling sight words correctly, sounding out unknown words.

We continue to work with the letters of the alphabet and the sounds the letters make.  We put sounds together to read words (ex. h o p; sound out each letter then blend to make word).  It is so important that your child knows the letters and letter sounds.  Please keep working with your child so that they know the letters and letter sounds.

In math we are sorting and patterning.  We continue to work with numbers 1-10 and think about how many we have if we add 1 or 2 to a given number.

We will read fall and pumpkin stories this week and work on some special projects.

Our letters and words of the week are:  "t" "i" "we" "go"

REMINDERS
Wednesday, October 26th is an early dismissal day.  Dismissal begins at 1:20PM.

A letter will go home about Halloween on Monday, October 31st.  Children may  not wear their costume to school.  It should be in a bag with their name on it.  We will help children get into their costumes and to take them off before dismissal.  Everyone is invited to the Storybook Characters parade which takes place at 2:00PM on Monday, October 31st.

Our star student this week is:   Alicia

Our trip to the Stamford Museum and Nature Center was fun.  We went to the barn first and we each got an apple to put in the hopper.  We were able to spin the wheel to mash the apple and eventually see the juice of the apple drip out.  We got to taste some apple cider.  We walked through the farm to see the animals and we had some time for the playground.
