Week of April 25, 2016

This week during our literacy block we will be reading stories about animals and talking about what an animal needs to live and the various groups of animals - fish, reptiles, mammals, birds.  We will write stories about a pet we would like to have with a beginning, middle and end.

In math we will be counting using craft sticks - bundles of tens and ones and talk about place value with numbers 11-19.

In science we are finishing up our wood unit and will talk about paper.

Week of April 18, 2016

This week during our literacy block we will begin a new unit about animals.  We will be reading books and writing about animals.  Our focus this week is understanding the difference between living and non living things.

Math this week will focus on reading and writing numbers to 30.  We will be counting by 1's, 5's and 10's to 100.  We will be solving addition and subtraction number sentences.  We will learn about time-minute, hour, o'clock.

In science we will continue our study of wood and make particle board and plywood this week.

We will talk about Earth Day and do some special projects.

Week of April 11, 2016

I hope everyone had a great vacation.

This week during our literacy block we will read stories and work on retelling-characters, setting, beginning, middle and end.  During our writing time, we will finish the stories we started before vacation about a rainy day and share them with our friends.

In math we are counting by ten's to 100, working on addition and subtraction number sentences and writing our numbers to 30.

We will be changing wood by using sand paper and wood.

We will continue some special spring projects.
