Week of December 18, 2017

This week we will be finishing our Eric Carle unit.  We have been discussing stories - characters, setting, beginning, middle and end.  We have been discussing problem and solution as well.  The students have really enjoyed this unit.

We are writing stories with a beginning, middle and end.  This week we will share our finished stories with our friends.

In math we continue to work with tens frames, teen numbers and we are solving number stories - addition and subtraction.

Week of December 11, 2017

This week we continue our Eric Carle unit.  We will read more of his books and continue to talk about characters, setting, problem and solution.  We will retell the stories we have read and include characters, setting, beginning, middle and end in our retelling.

We continue to work on the stories we are writing.  We are writing three good sentences - beginning, middle and end.  We are remembering to include details in our pictures.

For math this week we are beginning to work with teen numbers.  We also are working on number stories and shapes.

We continue to talk about December holidays and work on special holiday projects.

REMINDERS:

This week Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are short days for report card conferences.  Please be sure to sign and return the report card envelope.

We still need half gallon cardboard containers - so if you have any extra, please send them in.

Week of December 4, 2017

This week we continue our Eric Carle unit.  We are reading his books and writing and discussing characters, setting, problem and solution.  We are noticing his style of writing and we are noticing interesting words that he uses in his writing as well as his patterned language.

During math we will show various ways we can represent a number, we will be sequencing numbers and working on some survey questions using tally marks to respond.

We will be discussing December holidays and working on some special December projects.

The feeling word for the month of December is disappointment.  We will discuss and read some books about this feeling.

Week of November 27, 2017

This week during literacy we will continue with our Eric Carle unit.  We will talk about characters, setting, beginning, middle and end.  We will look for interesting words in the books we read and will notice similarities in Eric Carle's style of writing.

We will write a class story modeled after Eric Carle's style of writing.

We will be working on our math number books and we will be measuring.  We will also be learning about position words this week.

Week of November 20, 2017

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

We have a short week.  We will continue to read Eric Carle books and talk about characters, setting, problem and solution.  We are also drawing pictures and labeling our pictures.

During math this week we will continue to work with number stories and we will do some graphing.

We continue our Thanksgiving projects.

November 13, 2017

During our literacy block this week we will read Eric Carle books and talk about the characters, setting, problem and solution in the story.  We will read "Do You Want To Be My Friend?" and "The Very Hungry Caterpillar."  We will talk about characters, setting, problem and solution.

During writing we will design and label our own character and write a sentence to describe our character.

During math we will work with numbers 0-20.  We continue to practice writing our numbers as well as sequencing numbers.  We will work with number stories this week and and will do some graphing. We continue to practice counting to 100.

We will listen to stories about Thanksgiving and do some special projects.

REMINDERS:
Our Field Trip to the Stamford Museum and Nature Center is Friday.

Please remember our Thanksgiving Feast on Wednesday, November 22 and sign up to donate some items we will need if you are able to.

November 6, 2017


This week we will begin our author study and learn about and read books by Eric Carle.  We will begin to notice some of the similarities in Eric Carle books.  We will be drawing pictures and labeling characters from his books as well as talking about the problem and solution in some of the stories we will be reading.

This week I will continue to meet with students to review math concepts we have learned thus far this year.

We will begin to read and talk about the first Thanksgiving and understand the origins of this holiday and to discuss things we are thankful for.  Our emotion word for the month of November is thankful.

REMINDER:
This is a short week - there is no school Tuesday, Election Day or Friday, Veterans Day.
