Week of January 25, 2016

During our literacy block this week we will continue to read Eric Carle books and work on retelling the story.  We will make connections and talk about our favorite part and why.  We will be
 writing our own stories using repetitive language.

In math we will work with measurement, use calculators, practice counting to 100 and writing numbers to 30.

We will read and learn about penguins.

Week of January 19, 2016

During our literacy block this week we will continue to read Eric Carle books.  We will use pictures to retell the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar.  We will make connections to character's feelings.  We will be writing a story about things we do during the week.

In Math we will order events in our day, we will work with numbers 0-30 and work with pattern blocks.

We are working with short "i" word family words - ex. pig, wig, bit, sit.

Week of January 11, 2016

In Reader's Workshop this week we continue to read Eric Carle books and talk about Eric Carle as an author.

In Writer's Workshop we are writing a class book modeled after Eric Carle's style of writing - animals, repetitive language, bright colors in illustrations.

In math we are doing addition and subtraction number sentences and talking about shapes.

We continue to talk about winter and we will learn about Martin Luther King Jr.

We are reviewing vowel sounds and word families.

Week of January 4, 2016

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
This week in Reader's and Writer's Workshop we will be starting a new unit.  Our new unit is an author study.  We will be reading Eric Carle books and writing a class story that will be modeled after Eric Carle's style of writing.

In math we will be working with addition and subtraction number sentences.  We will be writing and counting to 30.  We also will work with calculators.

In science we will be talking about winter and animals in winter.  We also will be talking about where we live and learning about maps.

Our words of the week are:    do     play
We will review vowel letters/sounds and work with word families.

Our star student this week is Destiny.
