Week of May 1, 2017

This week during literacy we will be reading books about Animals.  We will discuss mammals and make a chart of facts learned.  We also will be writing facts that we have learned.

During math we will continue to work on counting and writing numbers.  We will listen to some number stories and decide if we have to do addition or subtraction and write the number sentence to go with the story.

We will be doing some special projects about plants - what plants need to grow and labeling the parts of a plant.

REMINDERS
Permission slips are going home for our trip to the Ferguson Library on Wednesday, May 17th and for our trip to the Beardsley Zoo on Friday, May 19th.  We will need chaperones for our trip to the Beardsley Zoo so please let me know if you can help.

Please dad save the date - Friday, May 26th we have a special dad bring a special treat in the afternoon and we will do a special project.  More information will be coming about that.

April 24, 2017

This week we will begin our new nonfiction literacy unit "Animals".  We will begin by talking about living and non-living things and characteristics of each.  We will then begin reading about mammals and making anchor charts to list facts learned.  We will keep a book of facts that we learn as we go through this unit.

In math we will review 2D and 3D shapes.  We will be working with addition and subtraction and practice counting starting at different numbers.

We continue to work on spring projects.

REMINDERS:
We have an early dismissal day on Wednesday, April 26th.

Please continue to practice counting and practice reading and writing sight words.

Upcoming:
We have two field trips coming up in May.  Permission slips will be going home shortly.  We will go to the Ferguson Library on May 17th and we have our trip to the Beardsley Zoo on May 19th.  We will need parent volunteers for the trip to the zoo.  It is a full day trip - we leave school at 9:15 and will leave the zoo at around 1:15PM.  If you are able to volunteer to help, volunteer forms will need to be filled out, and you must provide your own transportation to the zoo as well as pay the entrance fee.  Thank you for your consideration and please let me know if you are interested.

Week of April 17, 2017

Welcome back.  I hope everyone enjoyed spring break - we had beautiful weather.
During our literacy block we will continue to read Eric Carle stories and work on retelling the story - characters, setting, beginning, middle and end.  We also continue to write our own stories.

In math we will work with addition and subtraction and both 2D and 3D shapes.

We will talk about Earth Day and recycling as well as continue some special spring projects.

Please continue to practice counting to 100 and reading and writing sight words.  Also continue to read and retell stories.

Week of April 3, 2017

This week during literacy we will continue our Eric Carle unit.  We will read and retell "The Very Busy Spider."  We also continue to write our own stories with a beginning, middle and end.  We are learning about Eric Carle as an author and his style of writing.

During math this week we will be graphing and talking about estimating.  We also continue working with teen numbers and with addition and subtraction number stories.

We will talk about the feeling of "pride" this month.  We also are working on understanding and recognizing our own feelings and also of being aware of other people's feelings.

We will do some special spring projects this week.

Please continue to work on sight words and reading and retelling stories.
