Week of May 9, 2016

IMPORTANT NOTICES FOR THE WEEK:

Tuesday, May 10th is Kindergarten field day from 9:15-10:30.  We hope you will be able to join us for this fun event.

If your child has a yellow t-shirt it would be appreciated if they could wear it Tuesday and then again on Thursday for our zoo trip.  This is our class color for field day and it will help us to keep track of our class at the zoo.  If your child does not have yellow, white will work.  Thanks so much for your cooperation.

Our trip to the zoo was rescheduled, as you know, for Thursday, May 12th.  Please let me know if you can still chaperone if you had originally signed up to meet us at the zoo.

Our end-of-the-year class picnic will be at Cove Beach Park on Friday, June 3rd.  Details will be coming soon.

*******************************************************************************

This week during our literacy block we will continue working on our animal unit.  We are reading and writing about amphibians and fish this week.  We currently have 4 chick eggs in an incubator and are hoping to have baby chicks.  It takes 21 days and we have had them for about 6 days so we are on our way- hoping to have some baby chicks.

We talked about feelings last week and are completing a booklet that should be going home this week. We talked specifically about the feelings of excited, worried, frustrated and pride.  We had some really good discussions.

In math this week we will continue to work with numbers - place value, addition, subtraction and will review money.

In science we will continue to work with paper and explore various kinds of paper and see what happens to different kinds of paper when it gets wet.

We will continue to work with vowel sounds and being able to blend sounds to make words.

Our word of the week is:     be

Please work with your child to be sure they know all the kindergarten sight words and that they are able to count by 1's to 100, 10's to 100 and 5's to 50.

As always I appreciate all your support.

We had a week of indoor recess - but still had fun with our friends.
