Week of March 27, 2017

During literacy this week we will be continuing our Eric Carle author study unit.  We will read "The Very Hungry Caterpillar".  We will be continuing to discuss ways to respond to books.  We also will continue to write stories with a beginning, middle and end - at least 3 good sentences.

In math this week we are working with the pan balance scale, calculators and solid shapes.  We also continue addition and subtraction.

We will continue to talk about spring and work on some special spring projects.

Last week we did a special friend project that went along with an Eric Carle book we read "Do You Want to be My Friend?"  Kevin and John Michael shared their projects and shared what they like to do together as friends.

Week of March 20, 2017

During our literacy block we continue to read books written by Eric Carle and learn about his life as an author.  We are learning how to respond to books - my favorite part, I like/dislike because etc.
We are writing stories with a beginning, middle and end.

During math we are working with addition and subtraction number stories and writing the number sentences.

We will talk about "spring" and do some special spring projects.

I have met with many parents and will continue conferences this week.

Our trip to the Ferguson Library will be in May.

Tomorrow, March 20th at 1:00 we will have our Career Day Presentations.

Week of March 13, 2017

During literacy this week we will be learning about Eric Carle, his life and and his work as an author writing children's books.  We will watch a short video about him and chart facts learned.  We will notice and discuss his style of writing.  We also will work on writing stories of our own with a beginning, middle and end.

In math we are focusing on noticing addition and subtraction signs and solving addition and subtraction number stories.

We will do some special St. Patrick's Day projects.

We continue to work with word families.  We will talk about the long vowel sound in words.

Our trip to the Ferguson Library will be rescheduled.
Our Career Day presentations will be rescheduled as well.

I look forward to seeing everyone during conferences this week.

Ferguson Library Trip

Unfortunately, the purple bus that takes us to the Ferguson Library broke down so we were unable to go today.  The kids were disappointed, but we will be rescheduling and new permission slips will go home.

Week of March 6, 2017

During our literacy block this week we will be reading books by Eric Carle and writing reading responses.  We will also be practicing and getting ready for our career day presentations on Friday.

We will be measuring and sorting during math this week.  We also will continue to talk about 2D and 3D shapes.

We will work on some special St. Patrick's Day projects.

REMINDERS:
Wednesday, March 8th is our trip to the Ferguson Library.  We are still missing a number of permission slips.  Please be sure to send in a signed permission slip so that your child can go on the field trip.

Friday, March 10th is our Career Day at 1:00PM.

John Michael is our star student.

Ms. Slocum's class came into our room on Friday to listen to some Dr. Seuss stories read by Justice Everleigh.  Justice Everleigh also spoke to us about his career as a judge for the Supreme Court of Connecticut.
