Ferguson Library Trip
Unfortunately, the purple bus that takes us to the Ferguson Library broke down so we were unable to go today. The kids were disappointed, but we will be rescheduling and new permission slips will go home.

Week of March 6, 2017
During our literacy block this week we will be reading books by Eric Carle and writing reading responses. We will also be practicing and getting ready for our career day presentations on Friday.
We will be measuring and sorting during math this week. We also will continue to talk about 2D and 3D shapes.
We will work on some special St. Patrick's Day projects.
REMINDERS:
Wednesday, March 8th is our trip to the Ferguson Library. We are still missing a number of permission slips. Please be sure to send in a signed permission slip so that your child can go on the field trip.
Friday, March 10th is our Career Day at 1:00PM.

John Michael is our star student.
Ms. Slocum's class came into our room on Friday to listen to some Dr. Seuss stories read by Justice Everleigh. Justice Everleigh also spoke to us about his career as a judge for the Supreme Court of Connecticut.

Week of February 27, 2017
During our literacy block this week we will be finishing our unit about money. This week we are focusing on saving and spending. We will write about things we want to save for. We will begin our author study unit. We will be reading books by Eric Carle.
During math we will be measuring this week, counting and solving addition and subtraction number sentences.
On Monday we will have a special assembly with a youth motivational speaker sponsored by the PTO.
We also celebrate Read Across America week and Dr. Seuss this week. We will be reading many Dr. Seuss books and there are school wide spirit activities that you can join in to celebrate.

Weeks of February 13 and February 20, 2017
During the next two weeks we will be learning about how kids and adults earn money. We will be reading books and charting various jobs. We will talk about services and goods and learn the difference between a career that provides a service and one that provides goods. Students will begin to think about what job they would like to have when they grow up in preparation for Kindergarten Career Day.
In math we continue to practice counting to 100, counting by 10's to 100, writing our numbers to 20, and solving addition and subtraction number stories.
We will talk about President's Day and read some books about Abraham Lincoln and George Washington.
The special Valentine music show will be in the auditorium on Tuesday, February 14th at 1:30. All parents are invited.

We celebrated the 100th day of school on Friday, February 10th. Unfortunately a lot of students were absent. Here are some photos of the great projects that were on display. Thank you for all your hard work.

During our literacy block we will continue to read books about money, focusing this week on ways we can earn money. We will continue to write our stories about a need and a want that we have.
During math we will continue to work on number stories and comparing numbers. We also continue to practice writing our numbers 1-20 with no reversals.
We are continuing to explore wood and the various types of wood and how wood reacts with water.
We will be celebrating our 100th day of school on Thursday, February 9th.

During our literacy block this week we will continue our money unit. We have examined various currencies and we have been talking about needs and wants. This week we will write a story about a need we have and a want we have.
During math we are working on solving addition and subtraction number stories. We will talk about equal sets and we will continue to work with teen numbers.
We are observing how water changes wood and recording our observations. We will also talk about Ground Hog Day and make some predictions of our own.

During our math we will continue to work with teen numbers, we will work on number name collections (show various ways to represent a number) and work with addition number stories.
In science we continue to think about things made of wood and observe properties of wood.
